Any reason to have Amex Platinum & Amex Gold?? Travel for work…

Main Post:

Before I even go any further, does anyone know if it’s possible to hold BOTH an AMEX platinum and a GOLD card at the same time and on the same account?

So here’s the deal. I am currently an Amex gold member and am very happy with the earn categories on it. I usually am able to get my max benefit out of it between the 120$ shake shack/grub hub perk and the 120$ Uber perk. I love the 4x for food/groceries and usually am able to get some good value out of the points and the rewards perks. Overall I am very happy with the gold card.

So what do I want a platinum card? I recently started a new job that is going to involve a fair amount of traveling. The job has their own travel app that we use and they pay directly for the flights; rental cars and hotels are paid out of pocket then reimbursed via an expense report. I would like to have one separate card that I keep all work related expenses on. Now I know I can do that with a free credit card, but I am more interested in the platinum card for centurion and delta lounge access. I know I could benefit from the 200$ travel and Uber benefits. I would certainly get the value from that. I would also probably use some of the other perks that come along with the card such as elevated Marriott/Hilton status as well as some of the other stuff.

would it make sense for me to have a platinum card in addition to the gold? I know there is also the chase sapphire reserve; from what I can tell there are good perks with that but the lounge access is nothing compared to what the centurion lounges/platinum card offer. Anyone have any insight on this?

Side note: I do also have a chase visa through southwest as my non Amex credit card for those pesky places that don’t take Amex. That costs me 150$ a year. I usually get my Max value out of that one. I could keep it or lose it. But I usually get my value from it.

Any insights from anyone in a similar situation or with experience between these cards?? TIA

Yes, you can have both and it’s very common.

Gold travel pack?

Main Post:

Does it exist in FW? I know in ZD you didn’t see that until you got to Meridian, but being more than halfway through the game I’m pretty certain I won’t be seeing one this game.

I know you can travel for free from campfire to campfire which can be a bit out of the way from time to time especially when you’re far in the game and just jumping back and fourth doing side quests and farming machine parts for upgrades. Fast travel packs are very cheap to buy in all fairness but I do just miss the convenience of traveling wherever I want without thinking about how many packs I have left.

Top Comment: Nope, no golden fast travel packs - I think the campfire travel was a way for them to remove it, while softening the blow a bit. It's definitely a little less convenient, but I guess in a game that is built around resource gathering and management, it was a little weird to have the infinite pack. Or, they wanted us to spend more time actually running through the world.

Question for frequent flyers: What roles/industries require significant air travel to accumulate gold status?

Main Post:

I’ve been noticing that many members of this community seem to take a substantial number of flights each year, especially transatlantic. I’m curious to know what kinds of roles or industries typically demand this level of travel, allowing people to reach gold status (or higher). Are the majority of you working in fields like finance, tech, or consulting, where frequent travel is a requirement?

My spouse works in tech and takes maybe 1-2 transatlantic flights annually, which is nowhere near what some of you are managing! Do tech roles typically require less travel unless you’re in a client-facing position, or does it just depend on the specific company and role?

Would love to hear about the industries and job functions that involve high travel volumes—are there other sectors or roles that frequently bring you onboard BA?

Benefit of booking through Amex travel?

Main Post:

Why would I book through Amex travel when I can book directly on the website and save a few hundred dollars? Is there some other benefit other than the points?

Sapphire Reserve Members: Marriott Bonvoy Gold Status Challenge

Main Post:

It looks like the Marriott Bonvoy Gold challenge is back again for Q3 this year. Register on the Chase website and receive three months of complementary Bonvoy Gold Status. You can extend that status through 2/28/26 by booking through an official channel and staying three nights at a Marriott property.

Gold Elite Benefits include

  • 25% bonus points (on stays and purchases at the property during your stay).
  • Priority Late Checkout (as late as 2 pm, subject to availability).
  • Enhanced Room Upgrades (Higher Floors, preferable view, almost certainly does not include suite upgrades).

Top Comment: Please don't spend any money you wouldn't have to get to Marriott gold -- it's the same as what used to be Marriott silver, and virtually useless other than the small bonus.

Amex Gold + Looking for some guidance on what travel card should I get?

Main Post:

I use my Amex Gold as my daily driver, but lately I've been traveling more and I'll be getting married this year. My Fiancee and I plan to travel more together in the future as it's something we've really enjoyed together up until this point. The Amex Platnium is enticing because Capital One and Chase, to really benefit, requires you use their portal to purchase flights and accommodations, whereas we're the type who don't mind booking through anyone that has a cheaper price point. With that being said:

$695 AF

Offset Credits that's applicable to me:

Uber - $200

Clear - $200

Airline Fee - $200 (The only thing with this is that I'd have to be mindful of which airline I pick in the beginning of the year which off puts our want to find a good deal with any airline.

To add more into my thinking, does it make sense to add my wife as an AU? I would want her to get CLEAR and the lounge access with me, but thinking about it, it'd probably make sense just to pay the one time fee for the lounge access and the Global Entry one time fee.

Top Comment: amex plat only gives 5x when booked thru the portal clear is useless in the vast majority of airports (TSA pre is just as fast), and tbh isnt worth $200 you get one guest for centurion lounges so if you travel together than adding an AU is not necessary.
